How Awana Works

In Cubbies, the LEADERS make sure the children learn one verse each week, in order to finish their book by the end of the year. They have a story that applies God’s Word to their hearts. They learn to love, give, serve, and obey in game time and as see by the excellent example of their kind, generous leaders.

In Sparks, the PARENTS make sure their children are ready to recite one NEW SECTION each week, in order to finish their book by the end of the year.  If there is a review section, they need to say that PLUS a NEW section of verses in order to finish on time.

In Eagle Club, the STUDENTS make sure they are ready to recite their verse PLUS recite all the verses they’ve learned up to that point in the year, PLUS do an activity AND learn any bonus verse they may have for the week.

So, you can see that the amount of learning builds in each club.  Also, the responsibility for learning shifts from the Cubbie LEADERS to the Sparks PARENTS to the Eagle Clubbers THEMSELVES.  But the focus remains the same in all three clubs:  hiding God’s Word in our hearts, so that God can use His words to bring us to salvation, strengthen our faith, and help us to obey & love God with all our hearts, soul, mind, and actions.

THANK YOU, parents, for sending your children to Awana.  THANK YOU, leaders, for your faithful service to these families.  THANK YOU, Jesus, for the opportunity to come together to do this great work of ministry every week!
